FEE WAIVERS

Students whose families meet the income guidelines for free and reduced price lunch, the Family Investment Program (FIP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), transportation assistance under open enrollment, or who are in foster care are eligible to have their student fee waived or partially waived.  Students whose families are experiencing a temporary financial difficulty may be eligible for a temporary waiver of student fees.  Parents of students who believe they may qualify for temporary financial hardship should complete the waiver form with the free and reduced lunch application.  This waiver does not carry over from year to year and must be completed annually. Call 286-3270 for more information about FIP.

2007-08 FREE AND REDUCED PRICE MEAL APPLICATIONS

Free and Reduced Price meals are provided through a United States Department of Agriculture program.  Program regulations state that all families must have a current approved application on file before meal benefits can be given.  Please complete the Free and Reduced Price Meal application as soon as possible because it takes several days to process the application and notify families.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) will be sending a letter of Direct Certification for free school meals to all families who were eligible for food stamps on August 1, 2007.  Families are instructed in the letter to sign the letter and bring the letter to the school as soon as possible.  The family does not need to complete any other application for free or reduced price meals.

On the free and reduced price meal application, there is a waiver form for HAWK-I and Medicaid.  There are new regulations regarding the release of names to either of these programs.  Beginning this year, parents must sign the waiver if they do not want the school to release their name to HAWK-I/Medicaid.  If the waiver form is not signed, schools may share the information with HAWK-I.  Note that this waiver must be signed by the parent/guardian, not any household adult.

Glenda Thomason (Pleasant Hill's Elementary Office Manager) has the meal applications.
