21 in attendance

President report: Kim Smith

Soup labels:  8930 points sent for soup labels.  Thanks to Wendy Shepherd and Dawn Anderson for their hard work as well as the K-Kids.

We earned $700 in box tops.  Special thanks to Terrie for her efforts in that.

Matching funds from pioneer came in from Jimmy Cory’s pledges.  $400.00

Jen Braaffart: Vice President:

No report

Secretary: Corri Kendall

Minutes from Octobers meeting read and approved by Leigh custard and seconded by Troy Norman.

Received a thank you note from the Swintons.

Treasurer: Michelle Bodensteiner

PTO paid for benches and basketball hoops and the all school field trip to the Civic Center to see “Flat Stanley” in April.

Treasurer Report read and approved by Donna Britt and seconded by Nancy Jennings.

Principals Report: Terrie Price

We won the Smiles for Education Award from Hy-Vee. Received $5000.00 for our school and  Jessica Shepherd received a free laptop.  Would like to use some of that money towards a tile mural which each child will design their own tile and it be put together as permanent décor.

Group writings to be done by students and turned into a play.  This will cost $550.00.

Fluency club is up and running.  Snacks are appreciated for the rest of the year and also snacks for the after school K-Kids that stay and help with projects.

Instead of the Harvest Party we will be inviting Community Leaders, Parents, and volunteers to come and read to the kids on Thursday.  Also, on Friday will be inviting parents to come and read with their child.  We are still in need of volunteers.  If interested contact Terrie Price.  We will also be donating books to the shelters so if you have any books, send then to school with your child.

Have renamed the K-Kids.  They will be called the Panther Paw K-Kids now.

The kids will be going outside during the winter months as much as they can.  They need to have winter boots and snow pants to keep warm.  There is a “winter clothes exchange” to help those that don’t have these items.

Lice:  be sure to not send children with lice to school.  They need to be treated with special shampoo before they return.  Bringing in the label from the treatment used will help show that the problem is being taken care of.

OLD BUISNESS

Spiritwear is going well.  Notices were sent out today and we have collected 991.00 to date.

Partytime Fundraiser:  $16,774.00 was raised in our fall fundraiser.  We will receive 40% of that.  Delivery is Dec 4th.  Pick up will be in the gym from 3:30 – 5.

Class Photos:  reminder the last day is Nov. 8th.  The 5th grade class party is where the funds will be spent.  $1104 gross as of today.

Harvest Party and Children’s Book Week:  Will decorate the entryway as a “bookworm” theme.  Gummy worms will be bought for the kids and given out on Wed.  Popcorn and juice will be given on Friday (Nov.16th) when the kids read with their parents.  Leigh Custard will get the machine and deliver Thursday night.  We will purchase a bookworm bookmark to give as a prize.

November 15th is Fine Arts Night for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.  PTO will pay for the craft in the artroom.

Yearbook:  Leigh custard brought in a sample cover for this years design of the yearbook.  They are still asking for pictures until Dec.1st

NEW BUISNESS:

CD Players bought and will be here this week.

The Polk County Grant:  Last year we purchased basketball hoops and benches for the playground.  The hoops are in and the benches will be put in as soon as possible.  This year we need to request what we would like done through Prairie Meadows.  Some suggestions;

*Dance Revolution for P.E.

*Karaoke for fluency club

*Speed Stacks

*Lego’s for lego league

*Pedometers for P.E.

Inside Recess Games:  $300 to spend and the teachers were asked what was needed.

Holiday Shop: Sat Dec 1st at the Doanes Park Youth Center during breakfast with Santa in the morning and then again during bingo that night.  Pleasant Hill Parks and Recreation Dept will give roughly $1000 as vouchers for prizes.  We are talking about possibly doing a bookfair at the same time.  The vote was to make money for profit.  Jennifer Braaffart will contact Scholastic and make arrangements.

Sleepy Hollow Sledding Parties:  Voted to drop this year.  Will look into bowling or skating party.  We don’t want Glenda to have to deal with any monies as this is an added obligation to her.  We can do a coupon at the bottom of a flier or something to get the discount.

Friendship Party:  We are definitely having a party this year.  Will Be Feb. 14th.  Everyone agrees that reading the Valentines and playing a game or two is a great idea.  Will look into what type of games will be played.

Adjourn:  8:17 pm.

Next meeting will be January 8th at 6:30 pm in the Art room.

Childcare will be provided by Nanny2shoes.
