PLEASANT HILL ELEMENTARY PTO MEETING MINUTES

TUESDAY, MAY 8, 2007 in the ART ROOM

Meeting Called to Order By: President, Andrea Clark

Time: 6:40 p.m.

Attendance: 8

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

PRESIDENT: ANDREA CLARK

Andrea is working on a letter to parents (also on the website) on the value of our volunteers.  For example, if our volunteers were paid it would cost the school approx. $88,000 each year.

Parents are strongly encouraged to come to PTO meetings or talk to a Board member if they have concerns about our school.

The Polk County Grant was approved and we have received the $2,500.  The money will go towards new benches on the playground and the new basketball hoops in the gym.

5th Grade Graduation and Assembly will be Thursday, May 24 at 2:00.  Volunteers are needed at 1:00 to help set out tablecloths and make the punch.

Karla Wiebers will clarify with the staff on who wants what magazines for their classrooms and how many they want of each.  She will forward this information to Andrea.

Field Day t-shirt orders are coming in.  Each grade will have a different color.  Thursday is the last day to order and no late orders will be accepted.  Karla will send a note home to remind families.

School Supply Box orders are due today.  Glenda gave Andrea a list of students who could benefit from PTO support for supplies.  The list is much longer than in the past so PTO will evaluate again after registration.

Summer classes are available at the Art Center for $50 a student.  Scholarships are available so the PTO voted to offer a $50 scholarship to a student.  Andrea will give the information to Mrs. Reynolds.

Andrea will schedule the Nanny service for next year.  It is approximately $40 each month but it is important to offer this child care so parents can attend PTO meetings.  If we find someone else then we can always cancel.

             VICE PRESIDENT: KIM SMITH

Kim has been working with Quiznos on our Family Nights for next year.  It was decided that Thursdays in mid-month seem to work well.  Kim will discuss this with Quiznos and set the schedule.

            SECRETARY: JENNIFER BRAAFHART

Minutes from March 6 meeting read by all and approved by Donna Britt with the 2nd by Nancy Jennings

A $40 Hy-Vee gift card was given to the McClurg family to show our support as Mrs. McClurg has been battling Lupus.

            TREASURER: MICHELLE BODENSTEINER

Treasurer’s Report read by all and approved by Donna Britt with the 2nd by Nancy Jennings

Michelle added the “Magazine Sales” expense category.

Michelle reported on the status of the accountant.  Our PTO had not filed taxes for 2 years so we are facing the possibility of penalties.  A $900 fee has been paid to the account for his help with this issue.  Our returns have now all been filed and we are waiting to hear back regarding our penalty.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: KYM STEIN (Karla Wiebers reporting in her absence)

Mrs. Stein’s daughter had a baby girl late last week so Kym will be out of the office until next Wednesday.  Karla will be in the office and will have a sub in her classroom.
