OPEN FORUM

Andrea encouraged everyone to let the PTO know if there is a family in need at our school.  We want to be

able to offer support to all of our students and their families as they need it.

The potholes in the circle drive have been reported to the District.  Randy, our Chief Operations Engineer,

puts the repair request in his weekly reports.

Nancy Jennings reported on the 3rd grade field trip this month to 801 Grand and the Cub Club for lunch.  No

district busses are available because of the Special Olympics so they had to rent a bus through a private

vendor.  Also, the cost of the lunch increased by $1 this year.  Since this is their only field trip we did not

need to vote on extra money because money should be left over in their budget.

Joelle Snyder, Preschool teacher, thanked the PTO for working to get the “No Parking Beyond This Point”

sign for the preschool teachers to put out prior to afternoon pick up.  The sign has helped the parking problem

tremendously and has made it safer for the children.

OLD BUSINESS

Principal Position Update:  Kim Smith reported that no offers have been made yet by the DSM Schools. Kym

Stein has accepted a Principal position at an elementary school in Newton.  As mentioned earlier, a second

round of interviews for the new Principal at Pleasant Hill will be April 24. PTO will keep families informed as

decisions are made.

Field Day Update:  Will be on Friday, May 25th, Gary DouBrava will be leading the committee.  PTO will

provide water, freeze pops, and the balloon stomp.  The committee has also planned the DJ Party on the

same day.  An alternate activity will be available for those students who do not wish to be in the gym with

the DJ. Volunteers will be needed and forms will be sent home in May. Please contact Kim Smith if you are

interested.

PTO Committee Updates:  Birthdays = Wendy Shepherd; Class Parties = Sheila Warrick; Campbell’s Soup

Labels = Wendy Shepherd; Box Tops = Michelle Bodensteiner; Treasure Dig = Corri Kendall; Sleep Hollow =

Cara Daughenbaugh.  The Ice Cream Social Committee still needs a chairperson.  The K-Kids will be

helping with the Campbell’s Soup Labels and Box Tops.

Walkathon:  The date has been set for Saturday, Sept. 22.  The theme is “Take a Walk on the Wild Side”.

The teachers are beginning to decide on themes for their class baskets which will again be raffled off at

Fun night and the day of the walk. Volunteers are still needed for the Walkathon committee. Please contact

Andrea Clark or Karla Wiebers if interested.

Fun Night:  The date has been set for Friday, Sept. 7.  The theme will go along with “Take a Walk on the Wild Side”.

Volunteers are needed for this event. Please contact Kim Smith if interested.

ITBS Week:  Going on this week.  Karla Wiebers thanked the PTO for the healthy snacks for the students.

They always enjoy them.

5th Grade Party: Party agenda: Donuts & juice in the morning, bowling in the morning, Bella Italia for lunch

and Sleep Hollow in the afternoon.  Sleepy Hollow will have an amusement park set up and everyone will be

able to participate.  If it rains they will go to the Pleasant Hill Library for a movie.

5th Grade Graduation: The PTO will provide the cake and punch then the staff will coordinate volunteers to

serve.

NEW BUSINESS

Executive Board Nominations: Nominations for all Executive PTO Board positions will be accepted until May 1.

Voting will be at our last meeting on May 8. Anyone interested in a board position should contact Andrea Clark

at 266-7427.

Fund-raising for 2007/2008:  Discussion took place and votes were taken on what fundraising we believe is

necessary for next year. We decided to continue to offer a variety of fundraisers again.

$          Fall catalog fund-raiser: A vote was taken and approved to use Party Time, which is the

same company used last year.

$          Spring magazine fund-raiser: A vote was taken and approved to use QSP.

$          Wendy’s vs. Quiznos: A vote was taken and approved to use Quiznos for our “Community night

dinners”.

A suggestion was made to include information during Registration regarding our fundraisers and how the

money is

spent (ie: field trips, busses, supplies, computers). Staff and PTO will work together on this.

Birthday Committee: Wendy Shepherd suggested using water bottles for student birthday gifts.  The free

coupons and pencils will be put inside the water bottles.  Preschool will be included in the free coupons.

Teacher Appreciation Week: As a result of a larger staff, Kelley Buchacker requested more money for this

event as catering will be needed this year.  In previous years a parent has grilled lunch for the staff but we do

not have anyone to do that this year.  A vote was taken and approved to increase this budget by $250.

Anyone interested in volunteering for this committee, please contact Kelley Buchacker.

Arbor Day/Gov Culver: The Governor’s Office is inviting schools to purchase a tree for $200 from their school

to be planted in a 10 acre park on the west side of the State Capital.  A commemorative plaque will be placed

by each tree with the school’s name.  A vote was taken and approved that Pleasant Hill students can donated

money toward the purchase of the tree. PTO will pay any difference needed. The first grade students will send

home a flyer and will participate in the event that day.
