Red Ribbon Week

Pleasant Hill School
4801 East Oakwood
Pleasant Hill, Iowa  50327

Red Ribbon and Fluency Week    October 22nd-26th

Monday, October 22nd

Team Day –dress like your favorite sports team or wear Pleasant Hill Panther spirit wear.  (No helmets, cleats, etc.)

We will team up against illegal drugs.

Our lives will run smoothly if we work hard in school and stay drug free!

(Classes will practice choral readings to present at the pep rally on Friday.)

Tuesday, October 23rd

Stop Illegal Drugs- Wear polka-dots and things with spots on them.  We will put a stop to illegal drugs and make a statement to stay off drugs.    Students will read and speak clearly and stop at the period at the end of sentences.  Each grade will tape a radio spot to play for other classes.

Wednesday, October 24th

Hero Day-Heroes Don’t Do Drugs –Dress like your favorite Super Hero!  (Students need to be able to stay in the Hero outfit all day.) *No WWE wrestlers or spooky outfits.)  Students need to work with their parents to write 2-10 sentences about their Hero and be ready to read the sentences in school.  Practice your sentences so that you are fluent--able to read with expression and some speed, but not too fast!

Thursday, October 25th Knock the socks off illegal drugs and don’t get tongue tied.  Wear fun, wild socks and roll up your pants so everyone can see them and wear an ugly tie.  Student will write phrases to stay off drugs and then fluently read them to each other. Ex.

No, I have other things to do.  No, Coach would bench me.

No, I am in training.  No, my parents would ground me for the rest of my life!!

Friday, October 26th

Red-Read Day-Wear red.

Pep rally in the gym at 2:45 P.M.

Classes will each present a choral reading or a cheer.

**A group of 4th and 5th graders will present a play.

During the week students should wear their red ribbon that will be given to them on Monday.

Mrs. Helt will be planting tulips with the students to remind them to stay off illegal drugs and grow a strong mind and body.   Seeing the red tulips in the spring will remind us of the promises we made in the fall to stay healthy and drug-free.
