Kathie Hicok, Social Worker

Hi!  I am Kathie Hicok, the Social Worker for Pleasant Hill Elementary.  I previously served Pleasant Hill and I am so happy to return to such a great school!

2010-2011 will be my 10th year with Des Moines Public Schools as a School Social Worker.  I have been assigned to several elementary schools on the east side over those 10 years.  My current assignment will include Pleasant Hill, Capitol View and Willard.  Before working for the schools, I worked as a social worker, lead worker, and supervisor at the Department of Human Services in the area of Child Protection for 10 years.  I have a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and Psychology from Wartburg College.  I grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, graduating from Green Bay Preble High School. 

My family life definitley keeps me running!  My husband, Kent, and I enjoy working out every day together and the never-ending list of our children's activities to run to and from!  We have a daughter, Kaylah, entering high school this year.  Kaylah enjoys dance, tumbling, trumpet, piano, singing, and doing plays and musicals.  Our son, Kole, will begin middle school.  He enjoys Tae Kwon Do, baseball, trombone, piano, tumbling, singing and video games.  We enjoy spending time with our extended family in the area and traveling often to grandparents' homes for visits.
