What do you like about teaching?  
Showing kids how to play music.

What is your favorite instrument?
The saxophone is my favorite.

Is it easy playing all the instruments?
No, it took a long time.

Do you catch on fast?
Yes I think I do.

How does it feel playing in front of a huge crowd?
I like it. I use to get nervous but not any more.

What schools do you teach at?
Besides Pleasant Hill I teach at Garton, Park Avenue , Longfellow, Wright, and Hoyt.

Does playing instruments take a lot of practice?
Yes, it does.

What was the first instrument you ever played?
The first instrument I ever played was the harmonica.  

When did you start playing and teaching?
I started teaching in1978, so this is my 28th year. I started the saxophone in fifth grade.

Which instrument is the hardest?
They are all hard to play, if you want to be really good.

What was your first school teaching at?
Bloomingdale High School in Michigan

How many instruments do you play?
I play about 15 instruments. I usually play saxophone, guitar, and the piano.

Did it take a long time to become a teacher?
Yes, it took 6 years plus I played 3 years in the Army.

Where were you born?
Detroit , Michigan

When did you get involved in instruments?
I played the recorder in 4th grade.

How long do you practice?
At least an hour a day.

What’s the biggest instrument you’ve played?
The biggest instrument I’ve played is the tuba.

What is the smallest instrument you’ve played?
It would probably be the potato flute.

Have you ever been in a band, parade, or a march?
Many times. I do at least 3 parades every year all over Iowa
I’m also the director of the Iowa National Guard Band.

How long does it take to learn to play an instrument?
It can last your lifetime if you want to be good.

Do you like playing the National Anthem?
I like it very much.
